Best Breakfast Spots in Hobart in 2024
It only takes a quick Google search of "breakfast hobart" to feel overwhelmed by the countless options on offer. Everyone is trying to steal your attention for the most important meal of the day (debatable). To be honest, there's so much great food on offer that anything you try will likely leave you satisfied.
But, there's a chance it won't. I've had some pretty poor experiences. I hope you don't have the same.
Although I can't provide every (or any) breakfast menu and meal suggestion below, I hope the stories and experiences I share might resonate with you and encourage you to try one of my recommendations.

You're looking for the best. Most of these are locations are within walking distance of the CBD. I've provided six of my top picks below, but in the low chance none of them resonate, I've also listed another few cafes at the very bottom that might be the next best place to start. Honestly, I don't think you'll need them, but I've included them nonetheless!
First off is one of Hobart's most hidden gems.
If Hobart were to have a hidden gem in the breakfast or lunch scene, this would be it. I had no idea it existed until a foodie friend of mine recommended it. Oddly placed in the same room as a pharmacy and next to a gym, you're unlikely to stumble across this breakfast location.
I've only gone once and absolutely loved it. The food was of a calibre much higher than I expected - well-presented and tasty throughout every mouthful.
Their most popular dish is the chicken and rice. If you'd like to try it, I'd recommend calling in advance and asking them to set aside a number of serves. They had sold out when I arrived late morning and recommended to book next time. I'm still planning on doing so.
If you've only got one place to try for breakfast in Hobart while on holiday, this might be the spot to start your day.

Born in Brunswick will always hold a place in my heart. I first visited in 2017 when I arrived in Hobart with some friends and was blown away by the food and the iced chocolate. As I had lived in the North of Tasmania, I hadn't experienced food quite like this before. To this day, it still remains some of the best.
The iced chocolate (and iced coffee) comes with a side of coconut cream instead of a traditional milk. Divine. I could drink just this if I had the option to.
Their interior design is right up my alley as well. Photos online give you an idea of what you're in for.
If you've found yourself a cute Airbnb in North Hobart, this might be the location of choice.

Honestly, I'm unsure what to say other than I've never had a bad experience, and am continually in love with their menu. I kind of want to try everything. Perfect for brunch.
Imago not only does food well, but their coffee also. Two snaps of food options on my last visit. Would highly recommend anything on their menu.

I've been every Saturday for the past few months. I believe them to be one of Hobart's best. Not just because of the food, but the service. This is my run club's go-to location after our morning session (shameless plug to Another Run Club) and the team has always treated us well. Side note, we now get 10% off - this is a run-club discount, not Tassie Unearthed just yet (we're working on it!). Feel free to join us on a Saturday if you're around!
My go-to is the Mortadella. Most friends wouldn't go past the Schnitty. Any sandwich will leave you satisfied and often needing a takeaway container because of how large the sandwiches are.
Their pastries are also heavenly. The crookies (especially the biscoff) are a perfect mix between sweet and savoury. They don't outsource from a bakery, instead, it's house-made. If croissants aren't quite your thing, then the cinnamon cruller might be what you're after. Be quick though, they'll sell out quickly as the line can be out the door minutes after opening on some Saturdays. At least stop by for a look next time you're in Hobart CBD.

Two workplaces ago, I'd walk past Erda every day. Most days I'd leave with coffee in hand. The other days I had enough self-control to not give in to my craving for caffiene. Since then, I've introduced Erda to my family, friends and even used it as a temporary office for freelance work from time to time.
One of their baristas is world-class (probably the best coffee on this list) which pairs well with the quality of food they serve. I'm a big fan of Japan (and would happily live there if I could speak the language) and apprecite the Japanese elements throughout Erda's menu.
Some items on the menu might not be your go-to for breakfast, but trust me, you'll love it.

Leoht only opened in late September and have already set themselves apart as one of my top breakfast spots in Hobart. The first standout here was the service. The owners are lovely and made me feel right at home. The interior is one of my favourites (possibly moreso than Born in Brunswick), inviting me to delight in the cosy atmosphere just a little longer, especially on sunny afternoons in Battery Point (only had one of those but couldn't help myself but stay a few minutes more).
Food-wise, you can't go wrong. Almost everything is locally sourced. Give anything a go!
